World Environment Day - 5th June: Energy saving light pays for itself

Energy-saving lighting offers two-fold savings - the products make a real contribution to protecting the climate and make a real difference to household bills. Now anyone can work out just how much money they could save in their own home by simply going to www.osram.com and entering details in the energy-savings calculator. It's free of charge and so simple. "By using energy-saving lighting, each and every one of us can not only save money but also make a major contribution to climate protection. After all, lighting accounts for 19% of worldwide electricity consumption", said Wolfgang Gregor, Chief Sustainability Officer at OSRAM, in advance of the World Environment Day on June 5, an event inaugurated by the United Nations back in 1972.

OSRAM DULUX energy-saving lamps, which offer energy savings of up to 80 percent, are the simple way to switch to eco-friendly light. Replacing a 100 W light bulb with a 21 W OSRAM DULUX SUPERSTAR energy-saving lamp, for example, will save 134.30 euros throughout its life of 10 years. OSRAM HALOGEN ENERGY SAVER products are another easy way to help protect the climate. These innovative halogen lamps consume up to 30 percent less electricity than an ordinary light bulb and provide a particularly warm light. Replacing 39 light bulbs in a typical house with HALOGEN ENERGY SAVER lamps will save around 120 euros in just one year. And the environment will also have 350 kg less CO₂ to deal with - that is the same amount that 17 trees can absorb in a year.
